Eradicate child labour

The plight of children is heartbreaking when they work as a bonded labour. Our Government is taking drastic steps to prevent child labour and encouraging literacy to develop. According to our constitutional article 45 - Universal Free Compulsory Education should be achieved. We should join our hands to full-fil the goal of doing away with child labour and not wait for the Government to act. We need to stretch our helping hand and thereby we can initiate help from others. Though our work is a drop in the ocean, but every drop has its own contributions. A change should come from the hearts of everyone to achieve set goals. These little children are deprived of education privileges are working to earn their bread and butter. Everyone should feel responsible and check the child labour. Unless this social evil is curbed we can't avoid dropouts, stagnation and wastage for they being hurdles in the path of universal education.
At SICERDT, we want to ensure that such child labour are rescued, rehabilitated and provided with education and the basic amenities like food, clothing and healthcare that is the right of any child. We will make efforts to identify such practices, report them to authorities and try to rehabilitate such children.

Appeal

It is an evil practice where child labour is used in places like factories, industries, restaurants and even in homes as domestic help depriving them of rights of a child and his right to education. STREET/ SLUM CHILDREN EDUCATION

India is a country of contrasts! The country has as many as 53 billionaires; the fourth highest in the world. But the same country has over 3 million children living on the streets.Among the world’s 10 richest people, four are Indians. On the other side, 17 million Indian children work as labourers. India’s economy is galloping around 7% GDP growth. But also, 2 million children die before their first birthday due to lack of immunization and medical facilities!The statement "Children are the future of the nation" stops making sense, then! In fact, it sounds like an ominous prophecy. We believes that the desired changes in the lives of such children will come only when more and more privileged people start participating proactively in finding a solution. The organization also believes that the only way to ensure a better future for these children is by educating them. That is because education is both the means as well as the end; it empowers these children and evolves them as better citizens...

MEDICAL CAMP

Even after decades of freedom, India is struggling to provide basic health services to its people. According to government sources, in India 45 children die every hour due to respiratory infections. 1 child dies every 2 minutes due to diarrhoea. And annually, about 2 million children under 5 years of age die due to preventable diseases. The situation calls for timely care and diagnosis which can reduce the incidence of morbidity and mortality especially among children and women. The Health Camps is one such special initiative of our sicerdt organization to provide health care services to meet the immediate health care needs of the marginalized community in slums areas. SICERDT organizes customized health camps extensively across the country offering comprehensive health services – curative, preventive, promotive and referral, to a large number of people in selected intervention areas.

The Trust organized free Medical Check-Up camps and providing medicines to slum children and old age persons. For this charitable cause, the Trust cordially invites doctors from the reputed Govt. Hospital/ Dispensaries. During the financial year the Trust organized six times such camps

SELF HELP GROUP

The poor people are exploiting by the money lender with high rate of interest, distress sale or mortgaging a valuable or the unripe crop when it is still in the field is the only alternative for a vast majority of the people. The SICERDT has focus especially with slums people for self-income generation group, so that the people can meet their financial need. Micro finance is recognized as a key strategy for addressing issues of poverty alleviation and women's empowerment. Access to financial services and the subsequent transfer of financial resources to poor women enable them to become economic agents of change. People become economically self-reliant, contribute directly to the well-being of their families, play a more active role in decision-making, and are able to confront systemic gender inequalities. In this regard organization facilitated the concept of SHGs among community women to encourage them to participate in their development and work towards day-to-day problems through small savings. It was a major step to realize economic freedom. 10 SHGs are successfully functioning in the slum areas. The meetings for the formation of new groups and follow-up with the existing groups are a regular feature of the programme. These SHGs have given the members a sense of identity and a common platform to discuss their grievances.

WIDOWS MINISTRY

The SICERDT trust has set up a home for widows and destitute women at New Delhi that houses several unfortunate women who have lost their husbands or have been discarded by their families. The Home for Widows and Destitute Women ensures an honorable life for these women in a safe and secure environment and help them raise their kids in serene, healthy and comfortable surroundings. The sicerdt trust provides these women various vocational courses and employment opportunities to retain their daily living with honour and self-respect. Their medical, physical and dietary needs including boarding, lodging and clothes etc. are provided by the trust.

Women Empowerment

There are several clear indicators of the fact that Indian women continue to be discriminated against – the sex ratio is skewed against them; maternal mortality is the second highest in the world; more than 40% of women are illiterate; and crimes against women are in all respects rising. It is a paradox of modern India, that while women wield power and hold positions at the topmost levels, large sections of the women are still among the most underprivileged. Some of the areas that remain a main concern in case of underprivileged women are – health, sanitation, education, employment and social status. Health and education of women and girls are two main issues that loom large and continue to plague their development. While poverty, early marriage, malnutrition, lack of hygienic menstrual practices and lack of healthcare during pregnancy are some of major health related issues; records state that the average Indian female has only 1.2 years of schooling; and more than 50 percent of girls drop out of school by the time they are in middle school. In the given scenario, the only way to bring about sustainable development in the poor condition of underprivileged women and girls in the country is to empower them – with education and good health. And a simultaneous approach is the need of the hour. Initiative of SICERDT Trust that has been working, with a bifocal approach, for the sustainable development of underprivileged women and girls. Initiated in the year 2000, the programme was by and large conceptualized in accordance with the goals and objectives enshrined in the National policy for the empowerment of Women, and were overall mandated to create processes and environment for women and adolescent girls at the grassroots to realize their optimum potential in all facets of societal living and situations. The programme is specifically aimed at realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength for marginalized and socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community practices. The programme identifies adolescent girls and women from the community and developing them into Change Agents, who in turn actively contribute to the community mobilization process. Works towards its objective of all round development of women and girls, through the following interventions:-

• Educational Support • Providing Reproductive Health and Child Health Services • Male Involvement & Attitudinal and Behavioural Changes • Imparting Life Skill Education • Networking and Convergence Support • Sensitization of privileged Women and Youth

Access to Primary Education

SICERDT Trust is facilitating access to education for Women/children through Education Awareness Programmes focusing on women/ girl child and school dropouts. The awareness programmes are helping parents understand the importance of children’s education and to encourage them to go to school.

Sewing Centre Program

SICERDT facilitated a tailoring course for rag pickers and domestic helpers in a community in West Delhi, India. This helps them earn their living and provide for their family. The centre provides an important supportive environment for the women to meet and when certain skill levels have been achieved the project provides a sewing machine which can supply the successful trainee with the vitally important independent source of income. Saving and credit schemes have also been implemented and women’s fairs with drama and community activities organized.

Child Right

Since its inception SICERDT has been involved in advocating child rights. Activities have included:

* Organising “Child Awareness Day” in which thousands of street children participate in a cycle-rickshaw procession through DELHI.
* Seminars, camps, group meetings.
* * Conducting research.
* Co-operation with other NGO's on state and national initiatives.

SICERDT offers you the chance to build upon the skills you already have and use them to benefit the greater community.

Most of our volunteers are students coming both from India and from all over the world. Though, what is more important than your occupation and your country of origin, are the skills you bring to SICERDT and the right attitude and motivation. If you are from overseas, don’t worry about coming to India. We will help you feel comfortable.

How you can help us
Volunteering in the Rehabilitation Centers

SICERDT operates rehabilitation centers for rescued children As a volunteer you will become a big brother or sister to kids in our children's home; teach, sing, write, read, draw, dance and play with the children. Thereby, you get the chance to impart a sense of believe and dignity in the children that they are not indifferent. The time you spend with us can range from a week to a few months. We kindly ask volunteers to make a financial contribution to cover their food and accommodation in the ashram.

Internship in the Office

We also offer internships in our head office in Delhi. As an intern you can make invaluable contributions, for example by conducting research for SICERDT, supporting our campaign department or by working with our communication team. Your exact tasks will depend on you experiences, interests and the needs of SICERDT.
We normally require interns to commit to at least 12 weeks, working eight hours a day.
, we do not have the financial means to pay a salary to interns or provide accommodation to foreigners. We will, however, support you in any other way during your stay in our office. Upon completion, we will provide you with a certificate, which will also enable you to receive credits from University if applicable.

Women Development Program

In India basically widow means un fortune woman or unlucky person, nobody wants to see just her face, they believe if they see that whole day would be cursed, and loss. thousands of years our culture follows this evil practice, even today most of them being affected, and they have been rejected in all, family functions, celebrations, social and all economical, right based status and also her children are struggling to get their benefits and legal rights.
